Youth Sports
The New Fairfield Basketball League in now
in its 20th season. This season we have over 400 boys and girls participating
in the League. The program is successful due to the volunteers who donate so much of their
time. Jaycee members, the coaches, the League Board and help from the Park and Recreation
Department, school officials and referees who are involved from the first board
meeting in September to the Awards Ice Cream Social in early April.
The Jaycee Basketball League has several goals and
objectives that it follows closely; they include:
1) Teaching the fundamentals of basketball.
2) Providing fun in a competitive atmosphere.
3) Team play and sportsmanship.
4) Treating all team members equally.
The League is composed of four different groups for
boys and girls from 3rd grade through High School. They are the Instructional,
In House, High School and Travel.
The Instructional program for third and fourth
graders is the first exposure to the game for many boys and girls. Third grade is set up
as an instructional clinic teaching the basic skills of basketball. New this season is the
4th Grade PeeWee league which provides regular 3 on 3 team play complete with
referees and instructional skill building. This program runs on Saturday
mornings at the MHHS.
Our In House program is the League cornerstone. It
provides 4 divisions in the 4th through 8th grades comprised of 5/6
girls, 5/6 boys, 7/8 girls and 7/8 boys divisions. There are 25 In House teams in these
divisions. The program provides a 10 game season plus a championship tournament in each
division. Games are played on Saturdays in both the High School and Middle School gyms.
The Travel program fields 5 teams which play
neighboring Connecticut/New York towns in a very competitive 20 game season. There are
both boys and girls teams. Our thanks go to the travel coaches who dedicate so much of
their time with their teams. Games are played Saturdays and Sundays with home games at the
Middle School.
The Boys High School Division is open to all High
School students who are not playing on any winter season High School team. There are 6
teams in the division. Games are played on Saturday afternoons.
The season ends with Championship Tournaments for
both the In House and High School Leagues.
The League runs several fund raising events such as
the snack bar, shirt sales and pictures. All proceeds from these functions are put back
into the league to help defray the cost of running the program and to keep the
registration fees down.

N.F.J.C. AquaBears Swinteam
The New Fairfield Jaycee AquaBears is
a competitive swim program for children 6-18 years of age. We are members of the Yankee
League, which is made up of approximately 10 other teams from Connecticut. We also partner
with Ridgefield Aquatics, a USS swim program.
The objective of the AquaBear swim team is to
provide children with fun and a challenging competitive swim experience. They learn better
stroke techniques and strength development. At the same time, our children become
disciplined, self-confident and achieve a higher level of self-esteem. The board members,
coaches, and parents are committed to providing quality instructions, sportsmanship and
fun. The program would not be able to operate so successfully without their support.
